Reetle iOS App

Privacy Policy

App: Reetle  ·  Bundle ID: com.reetle.reetle  ·  Platform: iOS only
Controller: Reetle Team  ·  Contact: support@ereetle.com  ·  www.ereetle.com

For App Store Review: This page is the privacy policy for the Reetle iOS companion app. It is a standalone legal document, not the marketing-site waitlist policy. Reetle does not track users for advertising, does not sell personal data, and does not record GPS location. Location permission is requested only because iOS requires it to scan nearby Bluetooth devices and identify the current Wi-Fi network for hardware transfer.

1. Who we are

Reetle (“we”, “us”, “our”) provides the Reetle iOS app, a companion application for Reetle Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) e-ink hardware. The app lets you sign in, pair a device, transfer ebooks, images, notes, and audio, record voice notes, transcribe recordings, generate AI summaries and related content, manage to-dos, and purchase optional memberships.

The data controller for the app is the Reetle Team. Privacy requests should be sent to support@ereetle.com. We respond within 30 days.

2. Scope

This policy applies to personal data processed when you download, install, register for, or use the Reetle iOS app, including optional cloud features and in-app subscriptions.

It does not replace Apple’s privacy practices for Sign in with Apple, Apple In-App Purchase, Apple Reminders, on-device Speech Recognition, or the App Store. Those services are governed by Apple.

By creating an account or using the app, you acknowledge this policy. Where a feature requires consent (for example, microphone access or cloud upload of a recording), we request that consent in the app before the feature runs.

3. Information we collect

We collect only what is needed to operate the app. We do not collect data for advertising or cross-app tracking. Categories:

3.1 Account information

When you sign in with email, Google, or Apple, we collect:

Google Sign-In requests only the email and profile scopes. Sign in with Apple may provide a relay email if you hide your real address. We do not receive your Google or Apple password.

3.2 Device and technical information

We do not collect Advertising Identifier (IDFA). We do not use the App Tracking Transparency prompt because we do not track users across other companies’ apps or websites.

3.3 Content you create or import

Depending on the features you use, this may include:

In Local Only privacy mode, new recordings and files stay on the device and are not uploaded. See Section 5.

3.4 Paired hardware information

When you connect a Reetle e-ink device we process device model, firmware version, battery / storage status where exposed by the protocol, connection logs, and file-transfer records. This is used to complete transfers, apply firmware updates you initiate, and diagnose connection issues. We do not scan or connect to unrelated Bluetooth devices.

3.5 Subscription and purchase information

If you subscribe through Apple In-App Purchase, we receive from Apple the product identifier, subscription status, period, and original transaction identifier needed to unlock membership. We do not collect, store, or see your credit card number, Apple ID password, or full payment credentials. Apple processes payment.

3.6 Information we do not collect

4. How we use information

We use personal data to:

We do not use your recordings, documents, or photos to train advertising models, and we do not sell them. Cloud AI providers receive content only when you use a cloud feature and only as needed to complete that request.

5. Privacy modes

You choose how new recordings and files are stored. You can change this later under Profile → Data Privacy.

Mode What happens
Local Only New recordings and eligible files stay on this iPhone. Transcription uses on-device speech recognition (Apple Speech / WhisperKit). Cloud AI summary, mind map, and similar features are unavailable unless you temporarily upload an item.
Cloud First New recordings and files may be uploaded to our backend and Firebase Storage so they can sync and use cloud transcription, summaries, and related AI features.
Ask Every Time When available, the app prompts you at save time whether to keep the item local or upload it.

Switching to Local Only does not automatically erase content already uploaded. You can delete individual items in the app, or delete your account (see Section 13) to request deletion of cloud account data.

6. iOS permissions

Permissions are requested only when a feature needs them. Denying a permission disables that feature; the rest of the app continues to work. The usage strings in the app match the table below.

Permission Why Reetle asks What we do not do
Bluetooth
NSBluetoothAlwaysUsageDescription
Connect to your e-ink / recording device and transfer books, notes, and audio. We do not access other Bluetooth devices or use Bluetooth for advertising.
Location When In Use
NSLocationWhenInUseUsageDescription
iOS requires this permission to scan for nearby BLE devices and to identify the current Wi-Fi network so the app can connect to your hardware. Reetle does not record, store, or share your location. We do not use location for maps, ads, or analytics.
Local Network
NSLocalNetworkUsageDescription
Discover nearby hardware and transfer large files / recordings over Wi-Fi when BLE is too slow. We do not browse unrelated devices on your network for advertising or profiling.
Microphone
NSMicrophoneUsageDescription
Record voice notes. You can disable this in iOS Settings at any time. We do not record in the background for advertising. Recording starts only when you start a recording.
Speech Recognition
NSSpeechRecognitionUsageDescription
Convert recordings to text. On-device recognition stays on the iPhone. We do not send audio to Apple speech servers unless you use an Apple cloud-recognition path you have enabled on the device.
Camera
NSCameraUsageDescription
Take a photo to send to the e-ink device or to set a profile photo. We do not access the camera except when you choose to take a photo.
Photo Library
NSPhotoLibraryUsageDescription
Let you pick images to send to the device or use as an avatar. Only photos you select are accessed. We do not upload your entire library or scan unselected photos.
Apple Music / Media Library
NSAppleMusicUsageDescription
Play imported voice notes and audiobooks and cache audio for offline listening. We do not collect your listening history for advertising.
Reminders
NSRemindersUsageDescription
Optional sync of to-dos with Apple Reminders. You can turn this off in Me → Settings. We do not read unrelated reminder lists you did not sync.
Documents / Downloads folders
NSDocumentsFolderUsageDescription / NSDownloadsFolderUsageDescription
Store the on-device speech-recognition model files. We do not upload the contents of those folders.

Background modes used by the app are audio (continue playback) and bluetooth-central (maintain the hardware connection). These modes are not used to collect data in the background for advertising.

7. Audio, speech, and AI processing

7.1 On-device transcription

In Local Only mode, transcription runs on the iPhone using Apple Speech Recognition and/or WhisperKit (Core ML). Audio and transcripts remain on device unless you later choose to upload them.

7.2 Cloud transcription and AI

If you use Cloud First mode or explicitly upload an item, audio or text may be sent to our API (api.ereetle.com) and to the cloud processors needed to complete the feature you requested, including:

Those providers process the input only to return the result. We do not authorize them to use your content for advertising. AI output can contain errors; it is not professional advice.

8. Third-party services

The app uses the following processors. Each processes only what is required for the listed purpose and is subject to its own privacy policy.

Service Purpose Policy
Reetle API (api.ereetle.com) Accounts, file metadata, membership, device sync, AI request routing This policy
Google Firebase Storage Store files and avatars you upload in Cloud First / upload flows Firebase Privacy
Google Sign-In Optional account authentication Google Privacy Policy

Cloud AI providers (including speech-to-text such as ElevenLabs, and large-language-model providers for summary / generation) Complete a cloud AI request you initiated The provider’s policy; content is sent only for that request

The iOS app does not include Firebase Analytics, Google Analytics, Crashlytics, advertising SDKs, or social-login SDKs other than Google Sign-In and Sign in with Apple.

9. Sharing, selling, and tracking

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share it with advertising networks, data brokers, or third-party marketers. We do not use your data for third-party advertising. Apple privacy nutrition labels for this app should be completed as not tracking.

We share data only:

The app’s privacy manifest declares NSPrivacyTracking as false and lists no tracking domains.

10. Storage, security, and retention

10.1 Where data is stored

10.2 Security

We use TLS for network traffic, Keychain for tokens, access control, least-privilege practices, and deletion of files you remove. No internet service is perfectly secure; please keep your device passcode enabled and do not share your account.

10.3 Retention

11. Children

Reetle is a productivity companion for e-ink hardware. It is not directed to children under 13 (U.S. COPPA) or under 14 (where that higher age applies). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under those ages.

If you believe a child provided data without verifiable parental consent, email support@ereetle.com. We will delete or anonymize the data promptly.

12. Your rights

Subject to the laws that apply to you (including GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and China’s PIPL where applicable), you may:

California residents: we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are used in the CCPA/CPRA. We do not use or disclose sensitive personal information for purposes other than providing the service.

EEA/UK residents: depending on the feature, our legal bases include performance of a contract (account, transfers, subscriptions you purchase), consent (optional permissions and cloud upload), and legitimate interests (security, support, preventing abuse) that do not override your rights.

To exercise rights that the app does not already provide in Settings, email support@ereetle.com. We will respond within 30 days.

13. Account deletion (App Store Guideline 5.1.1(v))

You can delete your account from inside the app. You do not need to email us first. Deletion is permanent.

How to delete

  1. Open Reetle and sign in.
  2. Go to Me (Profile).
  3. Open Delete Account.
  4. Read the warnings, confirm twice, and complete deletion.

What deletion does

What deletion does not do

If the in-app flow fails, email support@ereetle.com from the address on the account and we will complete deletion.

14. Subscriptions and payments

Optional memberships (Lite, Pro, Plus; monthly or yearly) are sold as auto-renewing subscriptions through Apple In-App Purchase. Apple is the merchant of record.

Related documents: Terms of Service and Apple’s standard EULA.

15. Policy updates

We may update this policy when the product, law, or our processors change. The “Last updated” date at the top will change. Material changes will be communicated in the app or by email where appropriate. Continued use after the new effective date means you accept the updated policy. If you do not agree, stop using the app and delete your account.

16. Contact

For privacy questions, data requests, or complaints about the Reetle iOS app:

You may also contact your national data-protection authority. EEA users may additionally contact their local supervisory authority under GDPR.
